Florence Jackson was born in Longview, TX to the parentage of Vate and Iona Jackson. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark C.M.E. Church. Her family served honorably and faithfully at St. Mark. Florence maintained the faith they installed in her throughout her life. She continued that service at St. Mark until her health failed. She was a steady, diligent, and committed member of St. Mark where she served in various capacities. She served as Announcement Clerk, the first female Steward, appointed by Rev. H. Q. Dickerson, Vice‐Chairman of the Steward Board, Church Financial Secretary, Secretary of Literature and Publications for the Missionary Society, Sunday School Teacher and faithful member of the Wednesday morning Bible Study group. She was known for her infectious laugh, friendliness, and compassion for others. The majority of her adult life at St. Mark, she was known by everyone as the CANDY LADY. Every Sunday morning after church the children gathered around her to receive their candy. She loved all children. She maintained this ritual until she was no longer able to attend church. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Charline Jackson and Evelyn Stewart, two brothers Alton H. Jackson and Vate E. Jackson. Florence is survived by her niece, Sherrye (Charles) Alexander; nephew, Howard E. Jackson; very special cousin, Hattie F. Redmond of Dallas, Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
