Juanita Smith Harris was born to the parentage of Charles Smith and Annie D. Johnson Smith, August 9, 1938. Their beautiful only child would grow up to become the beautiful woman in whom her family's legacy begins.
Juanita grew up in the East Texas area and attended Longview Public Schools. She was baptized at an early age at Bethel Baptist Church. She was a woman of many talents but the things that most people will remember about her are her strong sense of pride and her love for her children and grandchildren. Her kids were her top priority even until she passed.
Even though she was very outspoken, she left beautiful memories, laughter and love that her family will always cherish.
She was one of the best cooks in Longview and she showcased her talents at several restaurants in the city including Roland's where she worked for many years. She later worked at the Coca Cola Bottling Company and she was a caregiver at several group homes throughout Longview, Kilgore and Gladewater areas. She also was the head housekeeper at several hotels. She was faithful, dedicated and hardworking until her health failed.
Mrs. Harris departed this life on December 31, 2019, at Longview Regional Hospital with her devoted daughter Tammy at her side. Later , her sons and grandchildren surrounded her bed.
She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory one daughter Tammy Morris (JW) of Longview, Texas:;her 5 sons:Calvin L. Hutchings Sr.(Theresia), Kilgore, Texas; Kelvin F. Hutchings Sr. (Tarsha), Arlington, Texas; Janeiro Duffie (Kristy), Gene Duffie Jr. Brandy Harris (Debbie) all of Longview; two step-sons: James Harris of Longview, Texas and John Harris of Hot Springs, Arkansas;28 grandchildren-three of whom she played a crucial part in their upbringing- Terrance Avila, Calvin Hutchings Jr., and DeCamri Duffie; 31 great-grandchildren; a special god sister, Glenda Johnson and a host of other relatives and friends.
